[AT 'Your' stage in time, the entirely physical and real, materiel, universe is 'moving from' a molecular to an electronic scale. Figuratively, I am saying that the universe is becoming 'smaller'. This is counter-intuitive in the popular (but erroneous) sense, as workers now generally in cosmology are pre-occupied by the so-called 'big bang', or at least reifications of this concept. It is a true paradox, indeed, because of course on the molecular scale the universe is still 'expanding'. So much is this so that, indeed, were we able to stand 'outside' ourselves, we should see that each one of us is many orders of magnitude larger than we were each at our births. As the whole of our surroundings keeps pace, we may not perceive this directly. Nevertheless, as the organisation of the universe ('information') becomes more refined, the relatively high signal-to-noise ratio which is a feature of molecular biological life, and which I suspect that Nejmi MuHammad would identify is the great source of much 'evil', attenuates. With this condensation, then, an interval approaches in which 'this' universe–going in two opposed directions at once–turns inside-out itself. The role of a parallel paradox in so-called spiritual terms, as MuHammad Nejmi alludes below, is of critical significance to these self-same physical facts. BW]
MANY People now know of the sufiyya teaching that he who calls himself a "Sufi" in fact is not.
THE Problem is that embodied human beings are egotistical by definition. No matter what your "level" you are fully self-absorbed. This contradiction is simply a result of the messiness of physical existence.
It is because almost all of the time the brain is being overrun by a lot of "noise" from both inside and outside of the body. This means at the best of times that everyone is trying to find physical satisfaction and fulfill mostly the random and impossible passions of their various "souls'" Mostly it is a question of a flood of competing (and untrained!) brainwaves. This is familiar to us all in the popular slogan:
"You CAN have it all!"
This is the American neurosis today. Religion IS coming to an end in the world as our nebi MuHammad (pbuh) said it would, and the price to be paid meanwhile is in "twisted obsessions'" Whether it is about religion and scientific truth, or sex, drugs and "neo-conservative" economic fantasies, people who make themselves the speakers for these things are mainly showing off, trying to "get laid" (si' Smit', er, Smeeth taught me THAT line!) and hoping to have their own television show.
These people are especially easy to spot of course as long as we keep our attention fixed strictly on "the others."
A Paradox is that people would not one-by-one come to learn that there exists a future state toward which they may choose to directly orient themselves if it were not for the fools who take it upon themselves to talk big about "spirituality," issue instructions for "execises" and write about these things all over the Internet.
Thus we can say that even "sin" and crime (and STUPIDITY,) all more or less serve the future–and that everything helps to lead to what lies beyond the present state of being. Because of the matter of love, however, how fast we get out the present soup is a matter of efficiency.
In this case a small but vital gain in "personal" effectiveness comes with learning to listen to the message and not to be overly preoccupied with the personality of the messenger. After all I can know that YOU are what si' Smit', er, Smeeth, from southern Minnesota in the United States calls "A Asshole"–only if I myself am also an asshole! Therefore, people need to learn that there is a fatal limit on the good intentions of unregenerate personalities, for example in politics. This does NOT mean that we are learning the lesson when we indulge in calling Bill Clinton and George W Bush "sociopaths" and other perfectly true, but insulting, names:
When people roll around in their own dirt like so many dogs, indulging themselves by calling Bill Clinton a "sexual pervert" and President Bush a "goof" and a "halfwit," mostly they are speaking of themselves in other words. And the rather embarrassing question comes up immediately about the character of all those who voted for these two unfortunates!
WHAT Is the way out of this mess?
First of all, one must realize that it is always "about me." This is irreducible for a good long time in the work of becoming a bridge beyond time. I am a man and a human being just as you are yourselves. And don't be mistaken, just because I do not lay claim to be either "wise" or The Greatest Man In The World does not mean that I do not think exactly that well of myself. There is a great deal of false modesty in religion and spirituality, just as in liberalism or being an insurance agent, or an interrogator at 'bu Ghraib. And still worse off are the "innocent victims" of biological life!
This is the way we are because of living in physical bodies at this time in the story of existence.
But we can sooner or later all choose to take a really longer view and begin the lifelong work of making direct contact with all that lies beyond "the future."
IN This light those who write about these things are in effect so many loudspeakers being used to convey some information. This is simply a physical fact of how the system of the world supplies an accumulating amount of self-correcting feedback. There is at work a certain amount of prospective homeostasis. Otherwise, though, these overt "Sufis" as such ARE mere janitors and minimum-wage airline-security flunkies. As such they most certainly would NOT be the most suitable guests at a garden party….
