VERY Often people who have read a certain number of books want to learn “secrets.”
The secrets of the “Sufis” are doing a landoffice-business these days. The consumers of this nutriment imagine that this knowledge somehow will bring them closer to the center of events, reality, whoever it is that is “in charge.” And indeed it all may–indirectly. Unfortunately however in addition to vanity and self-importance, there is a contradiction at work. The person who is really looking for knowledge (who has come a certain way on the path, ie) therefore will know reliably that whenever there is talk of “secrets” that it is basically a matter of an entertainment-group. To be sure, groups that cultivate the question of secret knowledge may have a teaching purpose. And again it is mainly a matter of giving people a chance to get something out of their systems.
THERE Is no such thing as “secret knowledge.”
WHAT There is, however, is knowledge which is immediately useful–and information that can neither be communicated in the usual four-dimensional ways nor is particularly useful in terms of any of the usual motives that characterize existence on a molecular scale.
To be sure much confusion surrounds all of this because much of human existence in biological society centers around secrecy. And in everyday life there is a certain need for example not to loud off about what you may really think about someone else. This is on all fours with the so-called secrets which people in government dearly love to hide away, mainly for career-reasons and not for any really intelligent longterm reason. The physically-embodied human being is so vulnerable to the ebb and flow of hormones and neurophysical states that unbridled “honesty,” either between individuals or governments, mainly would result in violence left and right–read any newspaper and you will understand the provisional need of secrecy in human affairs.
At this stage of existence.
THIS Type of social or political secret in fact has a shelf-life–it is only necessary to keep these sort of matters confidential long enough “to get out of town with the loot and the guy’s wife,” as si‘ Smit, er, Smeeth put it to me once in Morocco long ago.
Equally however at this stage of existence so-called “esoteric” secrets are mainly things that simply cannot be communicated in words or any other tangible image. This is a far different matter than the so-called “secret intelligence” of the English MI5 department. Anybody who has come far enough to know about the role in human being on this Earth of anger, fear, greed and lust, and laziness, in any case has a pretty good idea of what such stuff is already, without bothering to hack into anybody else’s computer!
IT Is no secret after all–there simply are a whole realm of other dimensions in which amazing things can be done, and there you have it. This has nothing to do with any “oaths” not to name names or to buy and eat only certain foods or to perform certain ritual gestures at concealed times or to socialize only with certain people. The secret is right there out in the open–use your imaginations….
AND Much good may the knowledge do you.
