TO The Editor:
IN Essence my Americans are playing silly bastards in al-‘Iraq because of — hypercredentiallism. An extremely “service-oriented” economy means that everyone and their brother is some sort of professional — or at least a “sales-associate.” What do professionals do? They professionalize — and elevate simple problems to a 5th and 7th level of urbanized abstraction. Show a professional a spade and this eunuch will call it an “implement.” This is the hallmark of an exhausted so-called culture whose only remedy is to do MORE of what we do “best” and do it FASTER. This means CREATING problems if need be (“islamofascism”) so as to CONTROL (like Hell!) the terms of the world-discussion. In short my 1946-64 American morally-busted “baby-boomers” are now conducting something analogous to the Boer War of one hundred years ago. Meanwhile the Far East is growing by leaps and bounds — and the so-called American “professional” and administrative classes are guilty of nothing so much as a colossal failure of — vision. Add to that the enormous nonmoral anarchy of media-subjectivism and we ARE beholding the equivalent of the late-Roman nerve-failure. Fortunately this does NOT mark the end of human being. But one expects that the Old Atlantic West IS going to be constrained to the North American East Coast and Europe north of the Pyrenees and Alps, and West of the Pripet marshes. And as matters now stand sooner rather than later. Ho, hum, all in an eon’s work, eh?
