IN View of si Smit’s, er, Smeeth’s preceding spoof on some of the failures of popular psychology, it is interesting to note the following:
THE Sufis contend that such things as charity and order and forebearance and cleanliness and honesty — first of all with ones “individual” self — are not luxuries. They are necessities in terms of any evolving capacity in Nature (ourselves), for a growing conscious and real capacity, exactly, for progress through this stage of human being, and beyond. As emerging self-awareness in Nature at this point is located in separate and usually-competing physical bodies all caught in a bitter struggle for the good things of life (“beer & pussy — Je-sus Christ!” — si Smit’s, er, Smeeth’s 87-year-old southern Minnesota farm neighbor, Judson Andersen), religion is, precisely, a tool — its purpose is to drum up the sort of enduring feeling — as opposed to random excited emotions! — that will enable physical so-called “individuals” to work together against “their” apparent physically-separated “best” interests.
NEVERTHELESS, The physical boundary between two human “individuals” is still so strongly felt that religion — as a tool — is rapidly approaching the end of its effectiveness. All tools of course in this abode of decay corrode. It is all a matter of entropy. Our contemporary psychology is a classic field for the play of — entropy. This is because of the great problem most of us have, most of the time, in distinguishing between real feeling for what is most valuable (all that lies beyond “the future”) vs the quotidian ebb and flow of hormonal and homeostatic, physiological, emotions. Most of these last are primary — fear and anger, greed, lust and especially organic laziness.
THIS Last trait is not-always-endearingly demonstrated especially by si Smit’s, er, Smeeth’s recently-discovered sufferers of ITBT!
THE Choice is between, precisely, flying off the handle all of the time and “acting like a gang of assholes!” as Mr Judson Andersen, here at home in southern Minnesota, not-inappositely puts it, in his delightful dialect which si Smit’, er, Smith first demonstrated to me in Morocco, in 1979. It is learning how to harness the horse, so to speak.
AFTERWARD, We may speak of actual horse-training….
AS MuHammad said (pbuh), Islam is the last religion that shall have been brought out in aid of this “horse-harnessing.” After Islam completes its historical task in approximately the next five hundred years, human being simply will have to grow up and train itself so to speak to become (NB) these gods and goddesses (including “humanism” and “science” and “rationality!”) that we all hare after in one way or another. Plus, of course, learn a lot more about harness!
THE Sooner or later arrival of these future conditions — and beyond — is up to us today, “each” and “severally.”
AND, So, the meaning hidden in the “symptom” of OCD is the necessity for, precisely, precision at certain times in all human affairs within reach of the operators whose task is to reach and maintain these degrees of exactitude.
OF Course, the so-called neurotic’s timing is off — but, the reason that formal order and objective honesty at all points of the compass (including such apparently-insignificant things as paying the exact postage and so on) is after all simply a necessity, is because this sort of realistic and thorough arranging of, and accounting for, the physical environment, this alone (when properly synchronized) can best focus & clarify material life and help to overcome the high signal-to-noise ratio of this present rather-inefficient and messy molecular level of existence.
