As Matters Stand Now: 23 January 2008
by Emmett R Smith
With Mrs Senator Bill Clinton having been awarded this morning two Washington Post ‘Pinocchios” for “significant omissions or exaggerations” in trying to traduce Mr Senator Barack Obama, for alleged Italian-Americanate slum landlord dealings as a young attorney, yesterday’s withdrawal from primaries on the Republican side by Mr Senator & Tee Vee Actor Fred Thompson stands in even greater contrast.
After all, out here in Tee Vee land, all we have really to go on is what we see, as in “what you see is what you get!”
And, as no less an American worthy than President Abraham Lincoln pointed out long ago:
“By the time he is forty a man has the face he deserves.”
What this means to us, now, is that if you are to line up the pictures of the past two weeks’ erstwhile primary candidates of both parties, it will be apparent that indeed Mr Senator Thompson’s face is — or rather, alas, was! — the self-evidently most moral and mentally healthy of the lot, not to mention probably down-to-earth and sensible too.
To bad for…US.
So it is that as of today Mrs Senator Clinton most definitely is on her party managers’ inside track, and were the November poll to be taken now, it again would be the lady from New York by a hare, she is so quick and fast with the “facts,” over Mr Senator Box Turtle from Arizona, which state of course shall be leaving the New United States soon, along with Texas and everything else down there and as part of a necessary hydrological and environmental steamlining, mainly just to protect the daily-more-threatened natural resources of the rest of the country….
Needless to say, given the essential marginality therefore of Mr Senator McCain, GOP party managers desperately are trying to “sex up” Mr Romney…which just plain ain’t gonna happen. After all, and with plans anyway to just plain give Michigan away to Ontario as a necessary American cost-cutting measure, the Mr-Pastor-Huckabee wing of a badly divided party is altogether rather suspicious of all of this sex-business. Their notorious touchiness on this last subject does however at least mean the soon-withdrawal of the rather-obvious Mr Mayor Giuliani, as a bone of party-contention anyway.
As the feminists say (at least when Mr Giuliani is not radiating grins and heat right at them), “thank Goddess for not-so-small favors!”
