Mr Arizona Republican Senator John “Scabby” McCain says we “are winning” in Iraq — and although I perceive historically and, hence, objectively enough that in the end no nation really ever does win anything by war in the really longterm, there are signs now in the usual human-normal political way of “thinking” that the opposition in Mesopotamia is wearing out.
In the long struggle toward an Arab-Muslim renaissance (and therefore a renewal culturally of the Old Atlantic West), a whole Iraqi generation, its parents and children, all will have been beaten to exhaustion in such a case.
And meanwhile we aging and not-graceful, universally and everywhere supremely undignified, Baby Boomers are simply not willing to stump up for any of it. Not our now-and-evermore ailing generation, in our presently dwindling pre-chinese America. After all we never have and just plain refuse now to pay at all for ourselves. Not a cent, not for anything much beyond the monthly dish-fees for all the glamorous excitement and mutual nasty-highschool name-calling in our Sunday morning Tee Vees. And still less are we even able to bring ourselves to look back on the history of war-financing, by all the previous generations of our nowadays mainly embarrassing forebears.
No more can we bear to face this humiliation of us by our American past than we are up to admitting to our offspring the awful and filthy fiscal future we are now putting off on them.
The self-disgust would be simply unbearable. After all this debt now is different and it is needed urgently, every penny, all to pay for the Viagra and the rest of the senectuous obscenities of an indecent and utterly asshole era, now ending:
What inspires public cynicism often in history is as much victory in war as defeat, as we have seen in our own post-WW II American moral and social decline into prosperity.
Still more cynical will be the consequences of this projected Bush-McCain (and Obama) win in Iraq. For the “victory” of the American two-party “system,” in Metro Baghdad anyway (and eventually in Afghanistan no doubt), can only see America, her fate and future, lashed all the more gummily and tightly to the tarbaby of the UK and Israel. Trapped altogether by History and then pulled under forever, and so on down to baptism in some trailercourt obscure hot piss about Jesus or somebody. All about the lost ten tribes of the Old Testament and the Dakotas, or something…maybe Mississippi!
This possibility — war without end and never EVER having to grow up — all of it is acutely exciting stuff of course to old testicles such as messrs John McCain, Hillary Clinton. And, alas, the ruptured and rotting old man Mr Illinois Democrat Senator Barack Obama in his grim and doomed turn shall inevitably become, if by tragic mischance he is elected in November to traverse the sewer of ruined NeoCon “policy.”
