Mr Eugene Robinson in today’s Washington Post has summed it all up far better than, as yet, even I for one am capable of doing:
Clearly, at seventy-two, Mr Arizona Republican Senator John McCain is a volatile elder goof and ninnyhammer, as well as a slouching grinning pinhead, with gopher cheeks and his jammy hands in his pockets. All of which may make for a very good illustration of constitutional decadence, as well as the universal human knack for, above all, self-deception on the topic of office-fitness. But, none of which leaves Americans with any functional choice in 2008, except the Democrat Party (Of Subsidized “Helping” Professionals) and The Cook County Kid.
(There is lof course the Libertarian Party, but this option requires qualities such as individual self-control and self-reliance as well as historical and constitutional knowledge, none of which most people any longer find helpful, or even just barely “doable,” in a complicated and specialist, limicolous or “high tech,” society.)
