My college classmate, Ron Weitbrecht, writes in his Arizona Republic weblog, today:
“Today’s posting might be the last for this year’s presidential election cycle. I found the two words I would use in summary of the two presidential teams. If you have single word descriptors of your own, feel free to leave them in the “Readers comments” window on my AZ Central blog or send them along to me.. Have fun and don’t forget to vote Nov. 4:”
In the link above Mr Weitbrecht writes with the loving care one gangster (Democrat) devotes to another (Republican) and, not inappositely, assails the “inadequate” McCain campaign. By contrast, he praises the “nimble” Obama drive, and of coutse I positively could not resist comment:

HOWDY, “Brecht, this time I positively could not log on at azcentral, probably avoiding another $165 IT dose of the cyber clap, so here goes:
I Would have said “inept” as to these GOP halfwits…but, inadequate neatly connotes rather well their general undignified dependence on Viagra, so let that one go.
“NIMBLE” Might just return to bite Democrats in the ass, though.
THIS Is because Barack Obama, alas, does not come to us in a nice sanitary vacuum. I rather expect that given the morals of the generation he may simply be unable to bring us a rooseveltean reprise, as some now may be hoping. Rather, I expect that his Chicago friends very well may do a Warren G Harding on him. You can see how this sort of thing may well snowball:
“OH, well, we’ve chucked out the pedophile Rove and the sociopathic Cheney so, surely, people will not mind if we treat ourselves just a little bit….”
THIS In history is how it always starts and, for the rest, there is the essentially insoluble policy mess abroad.
IT Will remain insoluble as long as all candidates have to genufect and ponce around about Israel. Thus, Obama will have no choice but to go on — and, on? — with the NeoCon’s dishonest and completely quack made-for-Tee Vee “terror war.”
THE Essentially low-level activities of these ratbag mohammedan fundamentalists is a police problem, it is an international police problem, but that is all it is. In that context, Israel no more than any other state has any peculiar “right” to existence. What all nations “have” is a right if you will to contend for existence. For Israel, professedly “democratic,” the best chance for continued existence will be to embrace thorough and equal rights for all persons dwelling within Israeli borders. Or at least (of course it is terribly unrealistic!) that is about the the only kind of “democracy” the US had better be pushing! Over time, it will naturally mean that Jews in Israel become again a minority, because of demography.
IN Just the same way, America by stages is becoming a non-white nation.
This is something that does not have to be feared, which it does no good to fear in any case, and which is just the way it is. Not least this is happening because of the middleclass white taste for birth control, abortions and other forms of greed….
BE That as it may, the exhaustion of an old order means the opportunity to revisit the theme of historical transition and try to do it, perhaps for the first time, with some consciousness and design. The candidacy of Barack Obama, if nothing else, shows that intractable ethnicities can and, indeed, do evolve. It is only to be hoped that Senator Obama, if elected President, will not be done by his friends.
(After an interval of second thoughts, I sent the following requested corrections to Mr Weitbrecht:)

Say, Ron, Jesus, maybe we should say “the pedophiliac looking Karl Rove” and “the obvious sociopath” Cheney. I mean, Christ, us Real Conservatives (me and Mr. Judson Andersen up here, he’s eighty-nine, we’re about the only two ones left) do not believe in propagandistic imprecision in speech, hysterical overstatement, or any other sort of metaphor. Sorry about the nervous pussyfooting! Your friend,

It’s all good, Smythe. The only nutball writing in so far [to Mr Ron Weitbrecht’s web log in the Arizona Republic — BW] still thinks Obama is a ’60s terrorist. Barack would have had a great cover at the time, being only eight years old or so. He could have originated the infamous and well disguised tricycle bomb! Why didn’t we think of that in ’68?
