These NYC Hudson (4-6-4) locomotives are close to my heart.
My boyhood Lionel model train set was pulled by Lionel Hudson 2055, and a remarkably lifelike engine it was. There were white tablets to be dropped down the smokestack onto an eletrical element, that yielded a fine cloud of smoke puffs as the train ran round the tracks. Also, in the bottom of the tender, an electrically operated whistle duplicated the sound of a steam locomotive horn with eerie verisimiltude. It was an accurate model in many ways, right down to the casting details.
The only question now is who played with the train more, me or Pop?
