Railfan Skip Weythman is right up there with the devoted people who chase tornadoes!
This long take of UP Northern 844 pulling the “Sooner Rocket” was made from a speeding vehicle down the highways and Interstate parallel to the the mainline, from when the train pulled out of Cheyenne. The graphite-faced, freshly shopped and gleaming 844 is a joy to behold:
Especially satisfying are the prolonged moments when sharply etched segments of daylight show through all the many gaps and spaces beneath the boilers and above the drivers. The run was filmed on 3 September 2007, and if you’ve worked on the high plains, you can about smell the sweetgrass and you know it is one hotter than Hell day out there, running on down to Okie City….
