…that as matters stand now the Israeli prime minister, Ehud Olmert, reminds us lest the “antisemites” sneer in their typical Nazi way and point out any imaginary contradictions:
“[It is] compassion and tolerance which characterize us.”
His opposition number, Binyamin (“Booby”) Netanyahu, chimes in:
“We grieve for every one of them [the many hundreds of Palestinian casualties in Gaza]…we genuinely do.”
But the Israeli foreign minister, Tzipi Livni, not to be “outmanned” so to speak, has assured the world in the glad chorus that:
“There is no humanitarian crisis in the [Gaza] Strip, and therefore there is no need for a humanitarian truce…”
And finally, the retiring but by no means shy US President George W Bush, asserted at his farewell presidential news conference that:
“…the world respects America for its compassion”.
This is good to know and, really, these rascally ungrateful Palestinians do need to just sit down one of these days and take stock of themselves….
