by A Dervish
People not unreasonably complain that the claims of mysticism and, for instance, the Sufis are “nothing but” fantasy, and that the Doorway To The Worlds if it even exists is closed, ornamental, merely “symbolic.”
In response, in that dimension of the work pursued by the North American Haddadiyya halka or fellowship it is said that having the right tools, and the knowledge of their use, is very important.
In fact, familiarity with these is the first item of business once real learning has begun in the case of each student.
It is a matter of learning how the door is to be opened with deliberate intention.
The Sufis very often say of course that Love is the answer, but this sentiment alone is merely a slogan without practical knowledge so to speak of lovemaking.
There is a distinct difference after all between normal casual reverie and purposeful visionary work, although the former is not forbidden either. Nor can the spontaneously occurring human phenomenon of fantasy practically be banned. Such hopeless efforts would be on all fours with the useless struggle against hashish and fornication, or Israel. Real Sufis have too much work to do in Love to be bothered with “tilting at windmills” or invading Afghanistan. Daydreams are a perfectly natural mental event as such, and so already we can see that they are perfectly “real”, every bit as much as say science fiction stories. This is because these episodes of reverie alone can give glimpses of the actual “paradise” that is the goal, and of course the saying is that “who tastes, knows”.
Or, rather, is on the threshold of learning to know….
There is seemingly always an immediate “shortage” of actual teachers, so these widespread outbreaks of untaught fantasy and delusion may or may not have destructive and time-wasting social consequences as noted below. Unfortunately the protagonists are in no condition to benefit from the presence of any teachers, and so this perceived shortage is practically speaking a non sequiter. However these very many episodes in history, no matter how unfortunate from our present point of view, “in the end” also will be ameliorated.
But they are in every case the first opening of that seemingly closed doorway.
The difference is one of scale.
You can hold a book of stories in your hand, it is a molecular object.
However, the images called up by reading the words in it it are in the brain, and there they occur on the electromagnetic scale. (There are as well distinct differences in the perceptual experiences of reading in silence, reading aloud and being read to.) So already you can see that we are addressing the question of “how do I get there?”
The critical difference is that an actuarial number of bona fide conscious workers are on the job at all times.
This in effect protects all of the unwitting “wild” visionaries that naturally occur throughout history, and who often turn out “science fiction stories” of widely varying quality and yet do not see beyond this. These un-selfcontrolled fictions have again very real results, including all of the “new” religions and constant political revelations about killing everybody else. Again, the additive activity of the fully trained worker insures at least in the end the safe return also to the House Of Awareness of these wretched “prophets”, and their victims.
In just the same way all of the down-to-earth people who do the everyday work of the world, who think this sort of thing is all nonsense and so of course have no actual basis of their own for their hopes, all these are gathered also. These are the spontaneously occurring instances of “secondary gain” that happens as actual workers conduct the ongoing transactions between The Worlds.
Again as pointed out before in previous writeups here, persons who happen upon this thread and are interested to know — and possibly experience — more are encouraged to begin their own share of the work with a careful reading of this introductory text, by Barbara Hannah (pbuh), Encounters With The Soul (ISBN: 97809384340230)
