The ruckus in Florida about burning the muslim Quran is very possibly a typical sufi teaching situation.
It certainly bears all the hallmarks.
The American President today in fact said in his press conference — without denying anyone’s freedom of speech — that the real danger in these kinds of symbolic calls for “action” is that they will stir up other people “who want to get attention”. So much is this the case here that in the muslim world not a few of the more advanced personalities already have noted the useful role actually being played by the Florida pastor in all of this.
It is really on the order of a very skilled teaching exercise.
The real questions include:
Whether the pastor is merely a “useful idiot”?
Or is he in fact a conscious agent of Wisdom?
Behind the scenes could there be after all a working relationship between at least some of the christian and muslim players?
Needless to say from the way the pastor looks, it is clearly an attention-deficit case.
The damaged country & western music type of look, the antique whiskers of the century before last, the eye-rolling sincerity and honest profession of a simple creed of christian love all wadded together, behind these are to be seen all of the stigmata of frustrated egotism. The great feeling conveyed to all who are actually self-aware of their own primary drives is “I have been forced to live on too low a level and now I’m famous, I really am tormented and conscientuous and all that stuff, and now I am that way even more!” This perfectly human mishmash is of course very sincere and the personality truly does “thank God”, not least for the feelings of personal fulfillment and success. “At last!” But that could be just as well a measure of the skill that has gone into all of this, the careful selection of a conscious operative who looks just exactly like the pathology that is our real problem.
This is the actual situation in terms of the hidden Sufi dynamic:
The actor or operative playing the pastor in any case is demonstrating clearly the decisive role of the extreme hunger for attention that is common to all people.
Any gambit will do.
Needless to say if god has given his OK, then so much the better. Nobody can possibly guess at my real ego motives and purposes then! Of course today all over the world this is the hunger to be important and have fulfillment by getting on TV.
In this sense there has been no real breakthrough in history for thousands of years — except so far personally, and on the individual level.
Of course motives and purposes are mixed and there is also sincerity and a real desire to do some real good in the world.
But alchemically it is the bitter taste of I-ness and “me”, and fear and greed, that is now being boiled away.
Today through mass media larger numbers simultaneously can be shown these living examples of the common problem. It is these examples of showing off especially in the name of god, like now in Florida, that it is to be hoped will wake up more individuals to these facts. The goal is to bring to more a greater alertness, and now at the same time.
The real price to be paid in alerting more of the potentially more fully human is of course in stirring up the large mass in the meantime. These are the ones who are still not regenerated and are living on “automatic pilot”. They are the unstabilized excitable element who need excitement and who go in for both terrorism, wars ON things and miltary life, and all these emotions in general, all of those factors which exist to be gratified by this branch of the entertainment industry. The gain for the longterm in all operations therefore is always a matter of careful calculation in terms of this unavoidable cost.
Technically the pastor, if he indeed is fully “in the know”, would be considered a malamati, a sufi who performs a necessary immature act in an exemplary way.
