THE Teacher and the student who together hold in their thoughts and words to a real and personal, specific, definite and altogether impossible problem, completely human and humble, of feeling and relationships and all of that agonized questioning by the heart of love: “What may be done about it?” — These are the potter and apprentice who spin and shape the whole world of creating creatures on the wheeling table of time, there in the old medina, there in Fes, there in the Street of the Jars. All they are doing there is shaping the empty vessels that may be used to contain the water all need to live. They work on one at a time.
